Biography
Move Well Osteopathy was set up by Joe Catton to help more people get back to moving pain free and doing what they love doing.
With a keen interest in health and fitness Joe decided to retrain as an Osteopath after being inspired by the treatment he received when he visited an Osteopath for hip pain while he was training for a triathalon.
He completed a 5 year degree at The College of Osteopaths, graduating with a Bachelors of Osteopathy honours degree. He also holds a Diploma in Soft Tissue Therapy.
Joe takes time to get to know the patient, their circumstances and health history. This enables him to tailor the treatment approach for every patient.
His passion for learning about the body has given him an in depth understanding of the way the body works. Combined with his love of problem solving, he identifies the root cause of the issue in order to effectively treat the source and not just the current symptoms.
Low back pain is his speciality as it can have such a debilitating effect on people’s quality of life. 8 out of 10 people suffer with it at some point, and the NHS states it is the largest single cause of disability in the UK.
Joe uses a wide range of osteopathic techniques including soft tissue massage, joint articulations, and manipulations, to help reduce the pain and improve mobility and function.
He believes it’s essential to empower patients by providing advice and education as well as exercises to complement the treatment, assist with recovery, and prevent future reoccurrences.
Joe is registered with the General Osteopathic Council and is a member of the Institute of Osteopathy.
Frequently Asked Questions
What happens in an osteopathic treatment?
We will take a detailed case history of your current issue, symptoms and your past medical history and lifestyle. We will then complete a physical examination, observe your posture and see how you are moving so we can assess how the body is functioning together. This may also include orthopaedic, neurological and other system examinations to help the assessment and diagnosis to ensure we can provide the right treatment for you. Occasionally if we are concerned about your health we may need to refer you to your GP or another specialist for further tests e.g blood tests or scans.
Is osteopathic treatment painful?
Osteopathic treatment is usually gentle and we work hard to make it as painless as possible. However, when treating injuries which require the handling of painful areas there may be some discomfort. If anything is causing you too much pain then just let us know so we can stop or adjust things for you. Following treatment, you may experience some mild soreness in the area of the body that was treated, this will normally resolve within 48 hours. If you experience serious or unusual symptoms after treatment, please contact us straight away for advice.
How long is an appointment?
The initial appointment will be 60 minutes. This will include a detailed case history, examination and treatment. Follow up treatments can be 30 or 45 minutes.
What should I bring?
If you have any previous X-rays, scans or test results then you can bring them along or a list of any medications you may be taking.
What should I wear?
So we can assess the whole body you may need to undress to your underwear. If you are uncomfortable with this, please bring some shorts and a vest top or loose clothes to wear.
